Using the selection tool I put them up against the other letters. I created two new type layers and found two ornaments that fit in perfectly with the type. You may have noticed while selecting some of the characters that there are ornaments included with the type. Find one you like by clicking on each of the different thumbnails.Ĭontinue going through and selecting different characters and seeing which ones look the best. This will show all the alternates for the letter e. In the drop down box for Show change it to Alternates for Current Selection. With the Type Tool, select the first "e" in Media. It is great to see all the different characters available to us, but the real power of the Glyphs panel is being able to show the Alternates for a selected character. It opens by default showing all the characters available for the font. This panel is the heart to this tutorial. This Glyphs panel gives you the ability to see all of the characters as well as the alternate characters for any given font. Open up the Glyphs panel by going to Window > Type > Glyphs Using the Type Tool create another type layer and type in Militia. Using the Type Tool, type out Media on one layer and change the font to Aphrodite Slim Pro. Make sure you buy the Pro version as it includes all the different alternate characters. You have to purchase it, but it is well worth your money. It is an amazing handmade font full of alternate and ligature forms designed by Sabrina Lopez and Maximiliano Sproviero. The font I am going to be using is Aphrodite Slim Pro. In this tutorial we are going to use Illustrator. Unfortunately, Adobe Photoshop does not have a way to access them via a Glyphs panel. Both Adobe Illustrator and InDesign have a great way to access these alternate characters. To gain a better understanding of how you can benefit from using alternate characters, we should first look at how you can access them. The font used in this example is Burgues Script. They are very useful at the beggining and end of a word. You will see swash characters in lot’s of calligraphic fonts. Swash characters – This is where a certain letter can have a fancy look to them. The font used in this example is Press Gothic Pro. You will usually find these in the Show Entire Glyphs and not as an alternate.īiform characters – These alternate characters can make capital letters have a lowercase look or lowercase letters with capital letter look while keeping the same size and weight. Logotypes – This is where a word is stylized as a logo to be included in your type. The font used in this example is Aphrodite Slim Pro. If you look at the example below the T and H characters are linked together. We can also look at adding other fonts for 'nicer' looking header lines or w/e but iconic font takes precedence imo.Ligatures – This is where two or more characters are linked together. I'm hoping you can take the lead on this Aleksi :-) Save the littera project so we can rerun it with different textures for instance if needed :) font output, pack method 6, and basic preset, power of two selected to allow adding mipmaps on png to dds conversion. Once we have a ttf, we can convert it to bitmap font using littera. But do not extend the glyph mapping outside of latin-1 and symbols +- nummerals if possible ( should be, not that many icons to exceed that range ). I would recommend reusing xvm-symbol6 unicode mapping and extending upwards as the tool chain has proven to work with that. Symbol6 and other icon fonts ( be wary of copyright issues, look for ISIL licensed fonts ), try importing png from wot icon library ( this will probably be not a one step process ). When a list is finalized, create a new truetype font using FONTforge or simular and import needed glyphs from xvm. Post the list to allow others to think along and maybe add 'forgotten' things. I would recommend making a list of usefull glyphs from xvm-symbol6 and icons from gui.pkg/gui/maps/icons/library starting with icons for gold, credits, ammo types, vehicle classes and so on ( icons for critical hits would be nice, injured crew members and damaged/destroyed devices ). * ( search for it I can't recall the url atm, it's mentioned in the wot forum thread ).
